Jayne White Ruben began her broadcast news career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at WBRZ her senior year in college in 1985. Her first job was Chyron operator and videotape editor (back in the 3/4” days). She learned and absorbed as much as she could about the job she was hired to do as well as other roles in the newsroom. She was promoted to morning newscast producer after about a year, not too long after graduation. Jayne graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism in December 1985.
Jayne moved to Shreveport, Louisiana and began working at KSLA News 12 February 22, 1988. She moved to the city after her engagement to James Ruben, a Shreveport native and entrepreneur. They married August 6, 1988 and have four children – Ashley (26), Tucker (25), Alyssa (19) and Allyson (18). She has held a variety of positions at KSLA over the course of her career and was appointed to news director on October 4, 2004. Jayne is proud to be a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. The organization is committed to helping develop diverse newsrooms, develop leaders and stresses the importance of fairness in the workplace and in coverage. Jayne has been a member of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated becoming a founding member of Shreveport’s Red River Chapter in 2012.
