Larry Washington’s amazing 40 years in Broadcast Journalism commenced in 1969. He was hired by the Promotion Department to work in the Mail Room. From those humble beginnings, his career took giant strides. First as a Production Assistant, then Assistant Director for “The Charlotte Peters Show,” one of the most popular live broadcasts of the time. His success led to production work on more hit shows like “Romper Room.” Each move brought more responsibility. Larry broke the color barrier by becoming St Louis’ First African American News Photographer.

Larry has been honored with many awards over the years for his photography skills, including a National Peabody with former CBS News Anchor and now Cleveland Anchor Russ Mitchell. He has also earned two local Emmy Awards with Investigative Reporter Elliott Davis for Fox 2’s You Paid For It. The challenges of the job were never so glaring than in 2004. While on an investigation with Elliott Davis in Wellston, MO, Larry was shot and seriously wounded. He never gave up. After 18 months of healing and therapy, he was back on the job, once again shooting You Paid For It segments, as well as FOX 2’s Contact 2. Larry’s skills were recently recognized at Fox 2, with his promotion to Chief Photographer, a role that once more gives him a platform to be a leader in his craft, a quality that has been the hallmark of Larry Washington’s 40 Years in St Louis Television.
