Great anchors not only become ingrained into the fabric of their community – they become a part of it. KWQC’s Paula Sands is such of a part of the Quad Cities that an entire generation of viewers here can’t remember a time when Paula was not on the air. She grew up in the Quad Cities, went to school in the Quad Cities, and got her first job in the Quad Cities in 1982. Eleven years later, in 1993, KWQC launched the Paula Sands Live, a daily half-hour lifestyle show.
In 2011, Paula was diagnosed with cancer. She took that diagnosis public, and took her viewers on an immensely personal journey through her battle with cancer on her way to becoming a tireless anti-cancer advocate. Now, 33 years later, Paula is still at the same station where she started, anchoring and reporting the news. Paula and her husband David have two daughters and five granddaughters.
