Sharon Stevens

Sharon Stevens joined KSDK NewsChannel 5 in 1993 as the Education reporter. She is the only St. Louis broadcaster to receive a journalism fellowship for Education reporters at the University of Washington/Seattle. Sponsored by the Knight Foundation, Sharon is one of 18 journalists to be selected for the International program. Stevens has received numerous awards over the years, including the “Best Feature Story” award from the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Sharon received the “Media Award of Excellence” from the Missouri Community College Association as well as the Virginia Betts White Quest Award from the National Association of Press Women Missouri Affiliate, for Distinguished Achievement in Communications.

Stevens has also been honored by the Associated Press in the General News Category the Missouri Teachers Association award for Education Reporting as well as the “Horace Mann Friend of Education” award for television journalism from the nation’s largest teachers’ union, the National Education Association Missouri affiliate. Stevens has won the “Journalist of the Year” honor (Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists) and the YWCA “Communicator of the Year” award. Stevens has worked as a reporter at NBC Radio, New York City, WBBM-AM, Chicago, and WGBH-TV, Boston. Prior to joining KSDK, she worked at KTVI-TV in St. Louis. Stevens is a tireless community volunteer and serves on the board of directors for the St. Louis Journalism Review, and the St. Louis Black Repertory Company. She is a former Vice-President/Broadcast of the National Association of Black Journalists and also serves as the chairperson of the NABJ’s workshop committee. She is also a member of Education Writers of America. Stevens graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Journalism. She also attended Columbia University, New York, New York on a Journalism Fellowship. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
