Terry Shoptaw is a rarity in the television industry. Not only has he worked in the business for more than 31 years, he has been at the same station the entire time. His career began in 1980 as a master control operator; through the years he has worked in live newscast directing, commercial production, management, senior director and on to production manager. While viewers in the community know the anchors, reporters, and even the photojournalists, very few know the man behind the scenes that works so hard to put the broadcasts on the air every day.
Terry is better known as ‘Shoppy’ to all privileged to work with him. Terry has been with KHBS/KHOG TV through major tornadoes, the I-40 bridge collapse, 9/11, the election of Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton to President of the United States, the ice storm of 2001, the OKC bombing, and many other national news stories that happened in Northwest Arkansas. Terry is vital to our successful operation. His commitment and skill was most amply demonstrated after a lighting strike took out all live production capabilities during a spring storm in 2011. Terry was able to almost flawlessly direct the 5pm newscasts on a new (and strange) production switcher with limited support, and other production equipment inoperable.
