2018 Walter Cronkite Scholarship

Matthew Beckwith is a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he is studying atmospheric science. Beckwith has always wanted to pursue broadcast meteorology as a career. Currently he works at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri as the weekend morning weathercaster.

As a child, Beckwith was terrified of storms. To calm his fears, he started to learn about weather and fell in love with it.

“It’s truly an honor to be a four time recipient of the Walter Cronkite Scholarship; I cannot thank the scholarship committee enough for their continued contributions to my education,” said Beckwith. Beckwith’s dream job is to work in the Midwest as a meteorologist covering all types of weather, and helping to keep people safe. “I’m incredibly thankful to be getting real experience as a weathercaster, but I can’t wait for the day when I can finally be called ‘Meteorologist Matt Beckwith.'”
